Author Shellie Jones has experienced several divine interventions from birth throughout her life, and over the years, many of her friends and acquaintances encouraged her to write about her unique journey. However, her experience in 1998 affirmed her need to share her story to readers.
“Survive and Thrive against the Odds” is a compelling memoir of the author that demonstrates how one’s brokenness stems from those unhealthy relationships causing emotional, mental, spiritual, financial, or physical pain. Jones miraculously survived birth, death, and other traumas of life by keeping her faith in God and maintaining her wisdom in order to survive and thrive on the challenges of life. In this book, she shares a plethora of stories of her humble beginnings from a child’s viewpoint to midlife.
Jones made many mistakes in her life and because of them, she suffered its consequences. Sometimes her faith was strong and other times, it wavered. Although she has experienced many trials and felt so much pain, her life has entailed positive outcomes as a result of God’s love and His amazing grace. Her positive attitude, faith, gratitude, knowing who she is and who she belongs to as a joint heir of Jesus Christ, and her determination, became essential keys for living. The heavenly father orchestrated circumstances in her life according to his divine order and her scars became her stars. In the latter part of this book, readers will find how her perspectives changed as she continues to live her life.
“Survive and Thrive against the Odds” serves as a ray of hope for anyone who has experienced any type of emotional pain. It will encourage readers to continue on their journey, make positive changes in life and live by faith in God.

About the Author
Shellie Jones was reared in a rural area in the South. During her teenage years, Jones began her family at a very early age. She spent 10 years attending community colleges on a part-time basis. After the death of her first husband, she and her three children relocated from the city back to her small hometown. While rearing her children as a widow, she attained her marketing degree from a historical black college. After making some bad choices in life due to loneliness, she suffered emotionally, spiritually, physically, financially and intellectually. Her health declined and died in 1998. Afterward, while she was in intensive care, she had a visit from an angel who encouraged her to keep on her journey utilizing her gifts and talents. She was promised to be supported until her work was finished. The doctors were dumbfounded and told her she needed to get on one of the prestigious hospitals’ heart transplant list immediately. After being diagnosed by a new cardiologist, Jones and her new doctor experienced a miracle. The Lord had healed her enlarged heart and leaking valves. Since then, she made a commitment to be God’s servant and strive to make a positive difference to those who needed hope and encouragement regardless of their circumstances.
