Skyward, the industry leading K-12 school management system, announced today that the Skylert school messaging system is a proven success in the Peoria Public School District in Peoria, Illinois. Skylert is the newest way for school districts to quickly send mass notifications. Messages can be sent via phone, email, and/or text message to employees, parents, and students in the case of an emergency.
In July 2008, the Peoria Public School District purchased Skylert to complement their existing Skyward Student Management software. With a district population of over 15,000 students, Peoria was looking for a notification system to quickly send messages for absences and emergencies. Peoria has used Skylert in a number of ways since its summer implementation.
The Peoria Public School District uses Skylert during daily attendance calls to notify parents if their child is not at school. When food service balances are low or negative, Skylert is used to inform parents of their decreasing account. Skylert is also used to communicate general messages to families about upcoming events in the district.
"Skylert has been very helpful, easy to use, and delivers calls accurately for our district," said Bryan Chumbley, Director of Research, Testing, and Assessment at the Peoria Public School District. "The reports we have been receiving on what calls have been made have been very detailed and the technical staff made setting up the software a breeze."
Skylert comes at a time where emergency notification systems are no longer a luxury in school districts, but a requirement. With school districts struggling more than ever to communicate to parents, students and employees quickly during an emergency, it provides for every medium of communication.
Skylert is powered by Swiftwave Network™ from Reliance Communications, which has delivered over 100 million messages for education clients since 2003." The notification system enables district administrators to send out thousands of messages via phone, email, or text, in minutes.
"Thankfully we have not had to use Skylert to send an emergency message," said Chumbley. "But sending messages for food service accounts, upcoming events, and daily attendance has been very beneficial in opening the lines of communication with parents and our district."
