The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) today unveiled “Launch Pad,” a showcase of educational technology startups being featured at the 6th Annual Sloan-C/MERLOT Emerging Technologies for Online Learning International Symposium (ET4Online), April 9-11, at the Planet Hollywood Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The Launch Pad marks an exciting innovation for the ET4Online Symposium,” said Bruce Chaloux, Executive Director and CEO of Sloan-C. “The program brings online educators and educational technology startups together in an environment designed to facilitate conversations and provide hands-on demonstrations of some of the latest innovations in educational technology.”

The mainstream adoption of smartphones, the significant increase in online learning, and the more recent explosion in MOOCs have spurred an explosive boom in the educational technology startup market. The Launch Pad program is designed to bring the latest innovations to ET4Online attendees, to offer a glimpse of tomorrow’s online learning spaces and create heightened opportunities for learning and reflection.

“Too often, the worlds of formalized education and entrepreneurial business remain disconnected,” said, Michelle Pacansky-Brock, chair of the Launch Pad subcommittee. “As technology continues to transform the way individuals relate to one another and make sense of their experiences, educators seek to understand how these shifts can be leveraged to improve our teaching and learning environments. Launch Pad enables entrepreneurs and educators to learn from one another, resulting in more accelerated and efficient innovations for tomorrow’s learning environments.”

The inaugural Launch Pad program features eight ed-tech startups that have invented solutions to problems faced by today’s online educators: BuzzMath, Ginkgotree, HireArt, The Predictive Analytics Reporting (PAR) Framework, scrible, Skyepack, STEMscopes and ValuePulse.
