Paul Desmarais, MD, is joining Drs. Kathryn Park and John Stavrakos in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department at The South Bend Clinic.

Dr. Desmarais is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He works closely with amputees and brace users, as well as provides pre-prosthetic counseling. He also does power wheelchair evaluations, worker’s compensation, independent medical evaluations and post-stroke rehabilitation. In addition, Dr. Desmarais performs electromyographies and nerve conduction studies (EMG & NCS) to diagnose conditions and diseases that affect the peripheral nerves, muscles, neuromuscular junction and motor neurons. He also evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with acute and chronic painful muscle, joint, spine and nerve disorders. Utilizing the most innovative procedures and diagnostic technology, he helps reduce or eliminate pain while increasing the daily activities of his patients.

Dr. Desmarais completed his undergraduate studies at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich. and received his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in Detroit. He served his internship at Carolinas Medical Center and his residency at the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation, both located in Charlotte, N.C. He holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and the Indiana State Medical Association.
