Now with restaurant dining exploding into an up-and-coming phenomenon, Charleston, South Carolina is quickly gaining a noteworthy reputation among food lovers in recent years.

Charleston's restaurant scene is booming. Charleston is typically known for its quaint atmosphere, friendly people and historic elegance, yet its dining locations have begun to crawl out of the woodwork and draw some serious attention to themselves.

A recent flare-up of unique, locally owned restaurants and award winning chefs has truly solidified Charleston's fine dining reputation. Among these food genuises is McCrady's very own Chef Sean Brock. Brock was named by the James Beard Foundation as Best Chef in the Southeast for 2010. With his dedication to local produce and his modernized twist on southern cuisine, Brock has put McCrady's on the map and made its spot as a top tier restaurant in Charleston all the more concrete. Right up there with Brock is award-winning chef and owner of FIG, Mike Lata. For the past three years, FIG has been named City Paper's Readers' Pick for Best Restaurant in Charleston, and Lata himself was named Best Chef in the Southeast by the James Bear Foundation one year prior to Chef Brock. This laid-back eatery joins McCrady's at the top of Charleston's restaurant list, yet its more casual setup makes for a convivial atmosphere. While these restaurants and their respective chefs have received praise and recognition for their work, many hidden gems are embedded into the streets of Charleston. Restaurants such as Cru Cafe, Magnolia's, Hyman's Seafood and Wild Olive have all made a triumphant splash onto Charleston's restaurant scene and are freqeuntly recommneded by locals as some of their favorite hot spots. With big names and hidden gems, Charleston holds an eclectic mix of restaurants that are sure to suit many different palates.

As summer hits full swing, Charleston prepares for another great run throughout its food industry, and as the fall approaches, the city plans to be a contender for the No. 1 spot on TripAdvisor's Traveler's Choice Top Ten Food & Wine Destinations in the U.S. for 2012.
