Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) February 27, 2012
Celebrating community leadership and charitable giving, the 12th Annual Governor’s Black-Tie Invitational will be held April 12-14, 2012 at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The three-day event, which is sponsored by Southern Highlands Golf Club Charitable Foundation, benefits a variety of charities throughout Southern Nevada. Over the last eleven years the event has raised in excess of $10,000,000 for charity. This year’s invitational event will be hosted by Garry Goett, President of Southern Highlands, and endorsed and attended by Governor Brian Sandoval.
“The amazing donations that are raised each year from this exclusive event are both impressive and humbling,” Governor Sandoval said. “It is my honor to support a charitable event that provides so much to Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas valley area.”
The weekend of activities will kick off with the Governor’s Black-Tie Gala on Thursday, April 12, at 5:00 p.m., featuring a special dinner, live entertainment and a variety of marquee, silent and live auction items.
The highlight of Thursday evening will be the presentation of this year’s Governor’s Philanthropist of the Year Award to the Fletcher Jones Family for their legacy of charitable work in Las Vegas and the entire state of Nevada.
Fletcher Jones Sr. started the family business of philanthropy in 1966 with the opening of his first Las Vegas car dealership. With every sale, a $10 donation was made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In the years to follow, Mr. Jones and his son Ted, along with their growing families, continued to donate to local charities. Discovery Children’s Museum, The Children’s Miracle Network, Opportunity Village, Strategic Autism Initiative, the Public Education Foundation, Southern Highlands Charitable Foundation and countless other individuals and charitable causes have benefited from the generosity and good works of this remarkable family.
The Fletcher Jones Family joins an impressive list of past recipients including Charles Mathewson, Joan and Jim Hammer, William S. Boyd, the late Claudine Williams, Kitty Rodman, Andre Agassi, Elaine Wynn, the Greenspun Family, Larry Ruvo and the late J. Terrance Lanni.
Following the first round of tournament play on Friday, April 13, golfers and their guests are invited to the Governor’s Grand Bash featuring a live performance by Grammy award-winning band Maroon 5. Since their first album debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and nearly 15 million worldwide. Maroon 5's biggest hit to date is their most recent single "Moves Like Jagger" featuring Christina Aguilera. "Moves Like Jagger" has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide since December 2011, establishing itself among the best-selling singles of all time. Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, can be seen weekly on the NBC talent show “The Voice.”
The weekend wraps up on Saturday, April 14, with the final round of golf and a special luncheon for the ladies, followed by an awards presentation at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
