It was a challenge to open one of the first spa's in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica, Spa Uno is pleased to announce it is celebrating 12 years as the leading spa in Costa Rica.
"We are so pleased to have made a difference for spa's in Costa Rica" says Molly McBride, the spa's owner and longtime resident of Costa Rica. "When we first came to Costa Rica no one even knew what a spa was, let alone what a quality massage or facial were. Basically there were just a couple of massage therapists doing massages in hotel rooms."
Now there are hundreds of spas in Costa Rica as the industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade.
"We did a ton of training" Molly continues, "the massage therapists in Costa Rica only have about 50 hours of training, compared to over 1,000 hours of training for a typical therapist in the USA. So we had our work cut out for us to bring the therapist in Costa Rica up to speed on what was required to work with clients coming from America who are used to a high quality massage service."
She estimates Spa Uno has trained close to 50 massage therapists in Costa Rica. "If you receive a quality deep tissue massage in Costa Rica the therapist was probably trained at Spa Uno" she jokes.
Spa Uno is open daily to the public and specializes in large groups for weddings and events.
