Former TechCrunch Writer Joins SplashCast, Media Syndication Startup

SplashCast, a mixed-media syndication startup, today announced that Marshall Kirkpatrick has joined the company as its Director of Content. Kirkpatrick was until recently a lead news contributor with TechCrunch, a highly popular blog that profiles Internet products and companies. Kirkpatrick will act as executive producer and oversee SplashCast's media strategy and content partnerships.

Portland, Ore. (PRWEB) December 11, 2006 -- SplashCast, a startup that enables consumers to create mixed-media channels publishable on any web site or blog, today announced that Marshall Kirkpatrick has joined the company as its Director of Content. Kirkpatrick was until recently a lead news contributor with TechCrunch, a highly popular blog that profiles Internet products and companies.

As Director of Content for SplashCast, Kirkpatrick will be responsible for the company's overall media strategy and creating a best-in-class web destination focused on the needs of independent individuals and organizations that are creating media content, known in the industry as User Generated Content (UGC). SplashCast is a clean, simple system for publishing channels of video, photos, music, narration, and text to a totally resizable, "skinless" Flash-based media player.

"The huge volume of media content on the Web has acted as a catalyst for a new syndication service like SplashCast that can be used by the average person," said Michael Berkley, SplashCast CEO. "We're ecstatic to have Marshall on the SplashCast team to focus on developing our strategy and community for User Generated Content."

SplashCast is unique in that it combines a media syndication network with a universal media player that supports almost any media format. This enables non-technical people to easily create their own channels of content and broadcast them anywhere on the web. It also allows bloggers and MySpace users to pull in other people's "public" channels for playback on their own blogs and web pages. The SplashCast media player is both very easy to embed and totally unadorned, so that the media programming becomes a seamless part of the web page.

"There are several strategies that SplashCast is employing that I think are likely to become best practices in the world of embedded media players and online publishing," said Kirkpatrick. "Tools like SplashCast will foster broad syndication of content by removing much of the friction that's present with existing tools."

Under Kirkpatrick, the SplashCast blog will spotlight the best up-and-coming UGC artists, high-profile guest bloggers, podcasters, industry luminaries, and social media thought-leaders and reviewers. Kirkpatrick will also be responsible for designing and managing the SplashCast "Best Of" channel network, featuring the most compelling SplashCast shows created each week, across several categories and subject matters. The SplashCast platform will be used for broadcasting and syndicating all of this UCG content across the web.

SplashCast will officially launch in January 2007. Signup information for the beta program and additional information on the company is available at http://www.splashcast.net.
