(PRWEB) November 13, 2009 -- A new cast for an old favourite, the new Star Trek movie revamped from almost 50 years ago will be loved with a passion normally reserved for epic romantic dramas, according to the experts at Blockbuster.co.uk. If that is not convincing enough, nine Star Trek 2009 cast interviews are featured on the site, plus the chance to win a Special Edition Box set, and a £13.00 money off promotion on the Blu-ray release, so have a look to see what all the fuss is about!

Directed by J.J. Abrams he admitted that "It was a weird conundrum to do a movie with a vision of the future from today, based on a vision of the future from almost 50 years ago". They (Abrams, Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof) decided that there were certain things that needed to be maintained such as the shape and silhouette of the Enterprise. At the same time they needed to look at the spirit of what was created nearly half a century ago and make it feel relevant for today.

Given that Star Trek fans are among the most dedicated nerds both on and off the planet, even Abrams admits to moments of trepidation when the weight of public expectation hung heavily upon him. "Honestly there were a few moments when I looked at what we were doing from the outside in and I started sweating, terrified!" The full interview with J.J Abrams is on the Blockbuster.co.uk site.

Chris Pine stars as a young Kirk and he chats about inheriting the legendary mantle of the great James Tiberius Kirk. "It was daunting" admits Pine about following in the footsteps of TV's William Shatner. "Mr.Shatner had a way of moving around the deck of the Enterprise which was almost balletic, specific poses that he struck in the Captain's chair which are so identifiably Kirk. He was bold and confident and funny and I was really impressed by the complexity he brought to the character".

Spock is played by Zachary Quinto, now for any actor, stepping into a role so strongly identified with another performer is a challenge, but Quinto had someone in his corner offering him all the support he needed. While attending San Diego's 2007 Comic Con convention, Quinto found himself riding in a crowded elevator with non other than Leonard Nimroy, the original Mr Spock. Silently standing next to one another, no words were spoken on the ride up, but when the doors finally opened, Nimroy turned to Quinto and simply stated, "You have no idea what you are in for." Talk about fate!

As a child, Kiwi actor Karl Urban dreamed of boldly going where no man had gone before, of exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and new civilisations. Now 37, the lifelong Trekie can finally say that he's done just that, having delivered a perfectly uncanny performance in the new Star Trek movie as ship's doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy, a remarkable feat of acting that sees the actor channelling the spirit of DeForest Kelley's original performance without descending into parody or impersonation.

Actor, comedian and local hero Simon Pegg feels as though he has just won the nerd lottery. An unapologetic, card-carrying nerd, and proud of it, Simon Pegg is the ultimate fan boy insider, a genre-loving film and tv sci fi, horror and fantasy fanatic who, thanks to his writing skills, innate comic timing and infectious, geeky charm is now part of the world he grew up loving. Pegg is now living the dream in Hollywood, playing out his wildest fantasies in the role of iconic engineer Scotty in Abrams' latest and greatest screen sensation. "Yeah, I was a fan of Star Trek as a kid," says Pegg, "The older I got the more I appreciated the cerebral nature of the show. I completely fell in love with it."

Threatening 23rd century civilisation in general and the brave, resourceful crew of the Starship Enterprise in particular, Aussie star Eric Bana relished the opportunity to play vengeful Romulan Nero. Anonymous beneath remarkable make-up, the actor relished the opportunity to play a no-holds-barred, world-smashing psychotic, and also the challenge of delivering a performance through multiple prosthetic layers. "It was a weird thing, at first putting on all that make-up" he says, "My agent though, he totally freaked out. The first time he came to visit me on the set he couldn't find me! 'Where's my actor gone?'"

Zoe Saldana shines as the strongest, smartest, officer in all of the Starfleet. Saldana portrays the communications officer Lt Nyota Uhura, the hot yet cool linguistics expert, pursued by Kirk but in love with another member of Starfleet's finest. "She was a sexy, elegant woman," enthuses Saldana, "and very strong when she needed to be. What I wanted to do was recreate her and picture her in school. Because of her commanding presence, I knew that I could have fun with her and make her powerful."

Interviews with John Cho and Anton Yelchin are also featured.

As helmsman Hikaru Sulu, Cho was called in to audition and then had to sweat it out for months while waiting for the decision. As fate would have it, the call finally came when the actor was on his honeymoon in Italy.

At 20 Anton Yelchin is the youngest member of the Star Trek cast, and given his roots and relative youth, uniquely qualified to play Russian Starfleet navigator and eager teen-appealing whiz-kid Pavel Chekov, a role made famous in the show's original incarnation by actor Walter Koenig.

Full Star Trek cast interviews are available on Bockbuster.co.uk, they make great reading. While browsing through the interviews take the opportunity to enter the Star Trek competition to win a1-10 Remastered Special Edition Box Set on Blu-ray, worth over £130!
