Startup Canada a one-of-a-kind entrepreneurial movement kicked off in Nova Scotia last March is coming to York Region on May 24. Startup Canada is a six-month National Tour to ignite, inspire and celebrate entrepreneurship across the country and plans to shine a spotlight on the lessons learned, challenges overcome, and successes realized by Canadian entrepreneurs.
The National Tour is happening from March to September, 2012 and aims to engage 25,000 Canadians and 250 partner organizations across the country through 30 public Town Halls and more than 100 Fringe Events. Provincial steering committees will help showcase local entrepreneurs on a national media platform and coordinate additional awareness campaigns. The movement is also being fuelled online through Startup Canada’s interactive website, live web-streamed broadcasts of the tour, and active social media networks.

ventureLAB’s innovative new BUILD program is one way that ventureLAB helps entrepreneurs in Ontario with mentoring, partnering and connecting advice in York Region’s business ecosystem. The BUILD program benefits advanced health tech, digital media, ICT, green energy, clean tech and advanced materials & manufacturing innovators.
On May 24, from 8:00 am – 9:30 am, ventureLAB will facilitate a by-invitation-only Startup Canada Town Hall event called Entrepreneurship Empowers Everyone. Media is welcome.

The “Entrepreneurship Empowers Everyone” Town Hall event will be held at the Markham Convergence Centre (MCC) in Markham on May 24.
This Town Hall event will be co-facilitated by business journalist and Startup Canada Advisor, Rick Spence. Rick Spence is one of Canada's foremost experts on entrepreneurship, innovation and opportunity. He is the former editor and publisher of PROFIT, The Magazine for Canadian Entrepreneurs, writes a weekly column for the Post's Entrepreneur section. Addresses will be made by the Mayor of Markham, His Worship Frank Scarpitti, and Robert Hache, Vice-President, Research & Innovation from York University and others to be named.
