“Last year, GEW orchestrated 25,022 events in 77 countries with 3 million attendees, and only 10 of those 25,022 events received featured event status,” said Marc Nager of Startup Weekend, a Seattle-based non-profit that has organized events in 52 cities and 12 countries. “This is an honor for us and speaks to the quality of the Dallas startup scene.”

“Big in Japan has been working to create networking and learning opportunities for Dallas entrepreneurs since our inception, and partnering with Startup Weekend is a great boost to these efforts,” said Alexander Muse, Big in Japan co-founder.

Startup Weekend targets the top talent from all walks of life in the local entrepreneurial community and puts them in a setting where anything is possible. In the past two years, more than 250 startups have launched as a result of these events. Many other participants have developed ongoing professional relationships.

The Startup Weekend agenda is as follows:

9 a.m. Saturday: Crowds pour in; work starts on development. Noon: Lunch. 3 p.m. : More coding, business plan development, and a special guest. 6 p.m.: Special guest drop-ins and pitches from the teams. 9 p.m.: Gut check on the product; basic prototype building; group get-together for drinks and to talk about the products everyone is working on.

9 a.m. Sunday: The day’s work starts again. Noon: Projects are being developed; live website with signup is possibly set up; more special guests drop in. 6 p.m.: Sink or swim time for those looking for a weekend launch. 9 p.m.: Presentations from each company; what worked, what didn’t, what could go better and contacts are exchange for those continuing in the future.
