Recent keyword research showed that the term “lawyer” was searched 140,520 times in the last month. The term “attorney” was searched 59,730 times for the same period. A more localized search showed that the phrase “Houston Lawyer” was searched 15,600 times and the term “find a lawyer” was searched 14,610. A search for “criminal lawyers” revealed that there were 12,870 searches and a combined search for the geo-targeted practice area “Philadelphia cerebral palsy lawyers” was searched 11,340 times last month and yielded 226,000 results.
It’s clear that the Internet is one of the ways that people search for a lawyer. But how do they choose among those 226,000 results?
“There seems to be a vetting process involved in choosing a lawyer. People no longer make a decision by seeing a single advertisement. They want to hear about and read credible information about a lawyer before he/she is chosen. And most of all, they value a referral from a trusted source.”
