Sunbelt®, the makers of great-tasting, nutritious snacks and cereals, announced today that the Northern Lights Soccer Club (NLSC) of Anchorage, Alaska, has won $1,000 through Sunbelt’s “Free Kicks” Monthly Club Giveaway.
NLSC won the contest after a Kansas woman, located more than 3,000 miles away, entered the club from a code located on a box of Sunbelt granola bars. NLSC was randomly selected out of more than 400 clubs that have been registered since the nationwide program began in September.
“Sunbelt Snacks started the national Free Kicks program to help US Youth Soccer players, and their families and friends, raise money for soccer equipment, supplies and other team expenses,” said Sunbelt Brand Manager Jeff Badger. “It is very satisfying to see the tremendous reach of the Sunbelt Free Kicks loyalty program. We have now had winning clubs in Alaska, Illinois and Michigan in the first three months of the program. Sunbelt’s focus on nutritious snacks and physical fitness are cornerstones of the brand and seeing this reinforced though our sponsorship of US Youth Soccer is wonderful.”
In addition to the surprise $1,000 winning entry from Kansas, other people from across the country randomly entered the Alaskan club in the Free Kicks program, earning them even more money and a greater chance to win the $2,500 giveaway at the end of February 2010.
One of those entries came from Nyla Thompson from North Dakota, who chose the team because the name caught her eye.
“I actually chose the club because, as a youngster, I was a member of the Northern Lights 4-H club in North Dakota,” said Thompson. “I’m sorry to say I know nothing about soccer, but I’d like to congratulate each and every member of the club. May they continue to win and show good sportsmanship in all they do.”
The $1,000 prize will help Northern Lights Soccer Club continue its focus on providing positive experiences for the young boys and girls in the club.
“US Youth Soccer is very excited to see our newest partner, Sunbelt Snacks, actively engaging in the US Youth Soccer community with their Sunbelt Free Kicks program that offers great member benefits through $1000 monthly giveaways, great prizes and additional cash prizes,” said Jim Cosgrove, executive director for US Youth Soccer.
There’s still time to help raise funds for the Northern Lights Soccer Club and other US Youth Soccer clubs across the country. To learn more about the program, visit SunbeltFreeKicks.com.
