Today the American Syrian Coalition (ASC) commended Rep. Laura Richardson for introducing H. Res. 742, a bipartisan resolution condemning the Russian government for continuing to sell offensive weapons to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which is using them to violently suppress peaceful demonstrations and protests by innocent Syrian citizens.
Joining Rep. Richardson as original cosponsors of the resolution are Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee; Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee; Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations; Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee; and Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC), Vice Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
A companion resolution was recently introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX); Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-IL); Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA); Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ); and Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).

"We are deeply grateful to the cosponsors of H. R. 742 for bravely standing up with the Syrian people and we commend their efforts to stop the supply of arms to the brutal Assad regime. We and all the pro-democracy activists are grateful for their support of justice and freedom for the Syrian people," said SEO Chairman Iyad Azrak.
The ASC was formed in April of 2012 to coordinate the efforts of various Syrian-American groups. The coalition's members are: the Syrian Emergency Task Force, the Syrian American Council, United for a Free Syria, and the Syrian Expatriates Organization.
The Syrian Expatriates Organization is a leading nonprofit organization of Syrian Americans and Syrian Canadians that reflects the diversity and talent of the Syrian nation. Its mission is to support the establishment of a free and democratic Syria. In addition, the SEO provides humanitarian relief to those in need and works to promote the social, political and economic development of Syria.
