The Syrian Expatriates Organization (SEO) condemns the Beirut car-bombing which killed eight people including Lebanese intelligence official Wissam Al-Hassan. SEO sends its deepest condolences to those affected by the bombing and stands with the Lebanese people in the face of this terrorist attack. SEO urges an independent investigation so that the perpetrators of this crime will be brought to justice.
On Friday, October 19, a car bomb exploded in a Christian district in Beirut targeting Lebanese intelligence official Wissam Al-Hassan and killing several others with him, according to Reuters. Hariri's son, Saad al-Hariri, accused Assad of being behind the bombing "Asked by Lebanon's Future Television who was responsible for the killing, Hariri replied: 'Bashar Hafez al-Assad,' giving the full name of the Syrian president."
SEO stands with the Lebanese people in the face of this heinous terrorist attack and urges an independent investigation so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice.
Dr Waleed Brinjikji, SEO PR committee stated: “It is clear that al-Assad used this attack, targeting a Sunni official in a Christian neighborhood, to sow sectarian strife amongst the Lebanese people. Given Lebanon’s tumultuous past, SEO urges the Lebanese people to stand firmly against al-Assad but to avoid falling into Assad’s trap by resorting to sectarian violence in the face of this attack. SEO believes this attack demonstrates just how dangerous Assad is. His continuous provocations of both the Turkish and Lebanese governments demonstrate his desire to destabilize the entire region so that he can maintain power. It is clear that Assad will do whatever it takes to keep his murderous regime alive."
