SEO expresses the utmost appreciation to Sen. Casey for introducing the Syria Humanitarian and Democratic Transition Act which would establish a Special Envoy for Syria, help secure non-conventional weapons stockpiles in Syria, increase U.S. assistance to victims of the Syrian conflict, and support a political transition and the establishment of an inclusive, democratic government of Syria. “The international community must provide humanitarian support to the people of Syria as they face unspeakable acts of violence by their government,” said Senator Casey. “My legislation will strengthen U.S. efforts to provide relief to the Syrian people and to refugees who have left the country.”

Dr Iyad Azrak, SEO Chairman, said, “the humanitarian situation has grown even more dire as the highly populated cities of Aleppo and Damascus are now besieged by Assad military forces. Unfortunately, with the Assad regime’s insistence on escalation, we are expecting the humanitarian situation to deteriorate, and the relief needs to heighten. We appreciate every effort taken by the international community directed toward the alleviation of suffering of our people, and would like to thank Senator Casey for his leading role in introducing the Syria Humanitarian and Democratic Transition Act. ”
