Denver artist Michael Keen brings his unique coffee creations to the trade show floor for the very first time

When the cable industry's top companies gather in Denver, Colo., for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo 2009, latte artist Michael Keen will be serving his unique coffee creations from the ADVA Optical Networking booth on the trade show floor.
Keen, owner of the Studio 6 Coffee House in Denver's Art District, has gained national attention for his ability to craft portraits of celebrities and customers in the foam of a fresh latte. Keen's work was recently featured on NBC's "Today" television program, but his Oct. 28-30 appearance with ADVA Optical Networking at the Colorado Convention Center will mark the first time he has served crowds at a major event away from his home base.
"Trade shows can get tedious with the same things done again and again,'' Keen said. ''Anything that makes you stand apart is going to be good."
It was in May that Keen first began applying his artistic skills to his lattes in an effort to stand apart from major coffee chains. After only a few months of practice, he is now able to produce creamy caricatures for customers in about four minutes.
President Barack Obama and musician John Lennon remain two of the most popular requests among Keen's coffee consumers. However, the average Joe out for a cup of Joe remains Keen's favorite subject.
"My most common work is the image of the person in front of me. That's my preference," Keen said. "It's clear that it's not something I've mechanically crafted. It's a piece of art work. It makes people feel good that someone is taking the time and putting that effort into their latte."
Keen will be available during SCTE exhibit hours in booth 13043, serving lattes courtesy of ADVA Optical Networking.
