Author Margo Smith wanted to write a children’s book that teaches children that they should accept themselves no matter what. Her new book, “The Perfect Shade of Pink” (published by Trafford Publishing), teaches children to receive unconditional love through the story of a flamingo.
Ed is a pink flamingo who lives in the shadow of his perfect brother, Sam. Ed leaves his family and friends for a better life in a far away land. Through a series of events, Ed discovers that his family unconditionally loves him, and he realizes he is alright being himself.
“Most children can identify with either Ed or Sam,” Smith says. “Parents can use the story to teach children they should accept themselves as they are and that a parent’s love is unconditional.”
The story is based upon the parable of the prodigal son from the Bible. Smith wanted to present a book to children that had a character that spoke to them on their level. Through the character of Ed, Smith teaches key principles of this parable.
