Napa, California (Vocus) January 5, 2009
- The Doctors Company, the largest national insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability, launched its first Southeast Legal Summit to ensure that attorneys representing The Doctors Company's member physicians have the most current information regarding the defense of medical malpractice complaints.
More than 35 of Florida's and Georgia's most senior attorneys and industry experts met to discuss the latest information on emerging trends, best practices, and strategies in defending today's medical liability issues. The Doctors Company currently insures nearly 4,000 physicians in Florida and Georgia.
"The Doctors Company is fiercely committed to defending member physicians whose professionalism has been challenged by providing the industry's most relentless defense," said Devin O'Brien, Esq., senior counsel at The Doctors Company. "The Legal Summit demonstrates the company's commitment to continually educate our attorneys on emerging medical malpractice issues so that together we can best defend our member physicians in the Southeast."
Providing the industry's most aggressive claims defense is central to The Doctors Company's mission. More than 80 percent of claims filed against members never make it to trial, nor do they result in indemnity payments. Of the claims that do go to trial, more than 87 percent result in a victory for its member physicians. In addition, a recent member survey shows that 92 percent of members are very satisfied with the company's efforts to aggressively defend them when their professional reputation has been challenged.
