Defence R&D Canada Collaborates with Third Brigade to Conduct Cyber Defence Research
Agency of the Canadian Department of National Defence and IT security firm to further enhance national security and public safety interests.
Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) July 24, 2007 -- Third Brigade , a security software company specializing in host intrusion detection and prevention , today announced that it has been selected by Defence R&D Canada to provide dynamic risk response research in cyber defence.
For over 60 years, Defence R&D Canada, an agency of the Department of National Defence, has been providing scientific research and development of applied technology, and is a leader in the exploitation of wireless and information technologies for defence applications.
Computer networks are a critical component of today’s military and play a vital role by supporting strategic, operational and tactical decision making. As such, risk assessments, along with the evaluation and implementation of new security technologies that better protect critical systems, applications and data, are integral to a modern military.
“Given the dynamic nature of the threat environment and the rate that vulnerabilities are being discovered in computer systems, novel techniques for properly mitigating dynamic risks are a key part of our research program,” said Julie Lefebvre, Network Information Operations, Defence R&D Canada. “Partnering with private sector organizations allows us to share and advance security knowledge and expertise in Canada, as well as effectively leverage best practices from industry and other partners in favour of securing our national IT infrastructure.”
“The Government of Canada continues to stay at the forefront of security through strategic investments that help ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information, as well as the integrity and availability of its computer networks,” said Brian O’Higgins, Chief Technology Officer, Third Brigade. “We are proud to announce this collaborative partnership with Defence R&D Canada. Our research will identify risks and vulnerabilities from multiple sources, develop operational cases based on risk, and help set response policies based on final recommendations.”
