When the creators of Time Management Magazine chose to create an interactive magazine, they chose to offer a variety of ways for the reader to get the information and keep their attention. For example, the magazine offers videos as well as text. Videos play a large role in the magazine helping to reinforce ideas expressed in an article. “We wanted to strike a balance between a traditional magazine and surfing the internet. We think we have come up with a balance that is a joy to read on an iPad.” Each article in the first issue of the magazine has a companion video encouraging readers to interact with the magazine.
Time Management Magazine includes a web browser as part of the magazine. “We also wanted the experience of internet surfing to be apart of the magazine, but not in a way that breaks the readers emersion.” said a staff member. The built in browser will allow the reader to open additional content by clicking links with in the article text. When the reader chooses to close the browser, they return to the magazine page where they were prior to clicking the link.
The magazine interfaces directly to the App Store which makes purchasing apps that are reviewed in the magazine effortless. According to a magazine representative “The iPad is a connected internet device that has access to the App Store. It only made sense to allow our readers to simply click a link in an article and be brought straight to the correct app store to review or purchase, books, music or apps.”
