Toolbox.co.uk is one of the largest dedicated online tool retailers in the UK and is continuing to grow despite the economic climate. Part of this growth is down to clever marketing tactics that utilises the web to its full extent by making the most of social media and various other platforms.
Social media works better for different types of businesses and the tool industry isn’t really the prime example of a business that excels at this. But that hasn’t stopped the guys at Toolbox working hard on the social aspects of their business and this in turn has led to a large following of over 10,000 people.
To some, this number might not seem like a lot when in comparison, Pepsi have almost 10 million (yes, million) likes on their page. Regardless, it’s still a big achievement for an online retailer who isn’t global and only advertises online. It’s also encouragement to the staff to let them know that they’re doing well and the business is still moving in the right direction.

Scott Morris, Marketing Manager at Toolbox commented: “Considering all of our advertising and means of promotion is carried out through an online medium, we’re extremely happy that this has translated to such a large amount of followers on our social profiles. We didn’t expect this in the beginning, but we’re definitely hoping that the growth rate continues!”
James Cook, another member of the Marketing Department also added: “Due to a limited amount of time spent on social media, generating such a large amount of likes is truly an achievement for everyone involved. The business is doing well and the increase in followers certainly represents this. Although the 20k milestone is a way off, that’s our next target and along the way we’ll be continuing to build relationships with our customers whilst providing a wide range of special offers and discounts to those who keep up to date with us!”
The Toolbox.co.uk website is currently ran from the constantly expanding Online Home Retail Network which at present hosts around 50 separate websites. These niche websites sell everything from leaf blowers and plant pots to bathroom products such as bath panels; which can all be found at the following site: http://www.bathpanels.co.uk/. Online Home Retail Limited first started out as Plumbworld Ltd back in 1999 and since then it has been bought by the Grafton Group PLC in 2006 and received a major rebrand in 2012. The business now employs 60 people in its purpose built warehouse/offices and has a total turnover nearing £25 million per year.
