With the recent cold snap, weather conditions and winter viruses have had their effect on the team at e-commerce company Toolbox. Despite these harsh conditions, the team of committed power tool selling experts have not missed a beat.

Fortunately, thanks to good organisation, a thorough IT department and committed staff, work has proceeded as normal. By allowing employees to login to the Toolbox system from their home computers, the company hasn’t fallen behind.

James Hickman, Managing Director, said: “The cold weather has brought a fair amount of snow and ice, making it difficult for some of our employees to make it in. Similarly, with the cold often comes illness and, thanks to our IT department, we’ve enabled employees to access their Toolbox workstations from their home computers. Obviously if they are bed bound we fully understand them having time off but if they can’t get in because of the weather conditions or they are recovering from illness but able to do some work, then this is great for all of us. Luckily we have a committed workforce and each individual has a good work ethic.”

With e-mail support from the IT department, anyone unable to make it into work has been able to effortlessly access their work computers. Luckily, the majority of the IT department were able to make it in, through the use of snow shovels and 4x4's.

Tim Hodge, Website Administrator at Toolbox, said: “I was recovering from an allergic reaction and I wasn’t in the right condition to come into work. I didn’t want to fall behind though. Luckily it was really simple to access my work machine and carry on where I’d left off. The boys in IT did a great job of guiding me through the process and I was up and running in no time.”

The managers at Toolbox are obviously grateful for the ability to login remotely. Scott Morris, Marketing Manager, said: “I login remotely a lot. If I’m at home and need to amend the price of a cordless drill on the website for example; or if I’m away on a business trip and need to access documents on my work computer, it makes an otherwise tricky task effortless. Also, it’s a fact of life that people fall ill, it can happen to anyone, but it’s reassuring to know that we won’t fall behind. That’s thanks to our hardworking and committed staff who are willing to do what they can when they’re unable to make it into work.”

With such a good work ethic and level of commitment it’s no surprise that Toolbox continues to excel in the online tool and equipment market.

Toolbox.co.uk is the sister company of the ever expanding Plumbworld Network. Plumbworld was an early pioneer of online trading, started by James and Anita Hickman in 1999 and sold to the Grafton Group PLC in December 2006. Plumbworld now employs more than 50 people in its purpose built warehouse and offices and boasts an astonishing 50+ websites selling everything from electric showers and woodburners to shower pumps and convector radiators. The business has a turnover in excess of £18 million and is growing at more than 20% year on year.
