Trash Kat Goes to College: ‘Recycled Percussion’ Features the Trash Kat Drum in Their National Tour Across College Campuses

ThunderEcho Drum Company’s urban-looking Trash Kat drum gets center stage as ‘Recycled Percussion’ rocks more than 250 college auditoriums across the U.S.A.

Medina, OH (PRWEB) September 30, 2006 -- Think of it as Power Percussion 101. ‘Recycled Percussion’ is one of the hottest acts around that choreographs muscular rhythm, movement, music and lighting in a sweat drenched fashion. They have won numerous awards, including Campus Activities Magazine’s “Best Major Performing Group” for three years running and 2006 “Performer of the Year” bestowed by the Association for Promotion of Campus Activities.

Their ambitious “Rock Your Junk” tour is Recycled Percussion’s largest to date, targeting more than 250 colleges nationwide and numerous theaters, NFL and NBA halftime shows. To the delight of ThunderEcho Drum Company owners -- Kevin Reed and his mother, Jane -- their Trash Kat floor drum is being featured in a segment of Recycled Percussion’s adrenalin-soaked show.

The Trash Kat, built in Ohio, is an urban styled floor drum constructed from a galvanized trash can. Its appearance is fun, but its big sound is serious, evidenced by the Trash Kat’s acceptance in orchestra pits, drum lines, rock bands and percussion groups from coast to coast.

So, how would you describe Recycled Percussion? Imagine rhythm on steroids. Start with a tangle of factory metal and recycled objects and real drums. To this collection of hardware add the leadership and talent of extreme drummer, Justin Spencer; the energy of two uber-percussive junk rockers Greg Kassapis and Ryan Vezina; and shape the mix with electrically charged hip-hop grooves spun by DJ Pharaoh. Combine with a critical mass of screaming, fist-pumping college students and you get Recycled Percussion.

When the lights are dimmed mid-show to temporarily cool the frenzy, the spotlight narrows on Spencer displaying his drumming virtuosity by finessing myriad sounds from the Trash Kat. His artistry is also captured on a track of Recycled Percussion’s "Live at Allegheny DVD," sold online, and is depicted colorfully on their tour t-shirts, sold at performances.

Trash Kat designer, Kevin Reed, is a big fan of Recycled Percussion. After a recent show he said that Spencer is enlightening an entire generation of college students in what masterful drum technique, discipline, and love of percussion is all about.
