The international community's failure to intervene has contributed to the crimes against humanity that are taking place everyday. It is past time that we wake up to support the Syrian people and end Assad's heedless killing of innocent civilians.

The American Syrian Coalition (ASC) today strongly condemned the massacre committed by Assad regime forces in the village of Tremseh in Hama province, claiming the lives of around 200 civilians, according to Local Coordination Committees. Gunship helicopters and tanks reportedly attacked the village, then the regime's 'shabiha' militias carried out execution-style killings.

According to Aljazeera, the Assad regime continues to use gunship helicopters and heavy artillery despite the fact that U.N. Special Envoy Kofi Annan's plan requires Assad to stop using such force. Earlier this week, as reported by Washington Post, Annan said he had agreed with Assad on this new peace plan.

"We are horrified to witness the devastation of yet another massacre, which took place in Tremseh. Meanwhile, Annan continues to hold fruitless negotiations with the Assad regime as the world watches," said UFS Chairman Dr. Yahya Basha. "The international community's failure to intervene has contributed to the crimes against humanity that are taking place everyday. It is past time that we wake up to support the Syrian people and end Assad's heedless killing of innocent civilians."

For months, Syrian-American groups have been urging the Obama administration to take action by establishing a No-Fly Zone in Syria and supporting the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in order to help topple the regime and prevent more atrocities. Since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in March 2011, more than 18,000 people have been killed during the largely peaceful uprising for freedom, dignity and democracy.

ASC was formed in April of 2012 to coordinate the efforts of various Syrian-American groups. The coalition's members are: the Syrian American Council (SAC), the Syrian Expatriates Organization (SEO), the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF), and United for a Free Syria (UFS).

TAKE ACTION:

UFS calls upon all Syrians and supporters of freedom to act now to help put an end to the massacres:

Contact the White House by phone at 202-456-1111 or email and tell President Obama to support the immediate establishment of a No-Fly Zone in Syria and assist the Free Syrian Army to defend the Syrian people.

Contact your representative in Congress and ask him/her to support the immediate establishment of a No-Fly Zone in Syria and assist the Free Syrian Army to defend the Syrian people.

United for a Free Syria is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting democracy, freedom and dignity for the Syrian people. UFS works to ensure that Syria becomes a thriving democracy and a model for its neighbors in the region.
