"The President's statement signals the administration's dedication to extending and strengthening U.S. leadership in global health and developing key strategies toward fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, but also to broader global health challenges including the need to improve health systems, reduce childhood mortality, improve maternal health and reduce unintended pregnancies, with a renewed emphasis on prevention.

"We applaud the administration for the renewed U.S. commitment to reaching the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. At the UN Foundation, we believe in the importance of diverse public-private partnerships with governments, advocacy groups, corporations, individuals, and most importantly the United Nations to address our most pressing challenges and achieve broad results. Overall, this new White House position on global health demonstrates the Administration's commitment to extending the significant progress that has been made while seeking new and effective means toward reducing deaths and suffering to the world's poor."

The UN Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner's historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. The UN Foundation is an advocate for the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas, and resources to help the United Nations solve global problems. We build partnerships, grow constituencies, mobilize resources and advocate policy changes to support the UN's work for individual and global progress. The UN Foundation's work - focused on select global problems - is decreasing child mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting diverse cultures and environments, creating a clean energy future, empowering women and girls, and improving U.S.-UN relations.
