The American University in Cairo is to offer study programmes for the University of London International Programmes and, in doing so, it will help increase the range of programmes available for graduate students in the region.
The announcement was made today (11 November) in Cairo by Professor Jonathan Kydd, Dean of the University of London International Programmes. Professor Kydd said he was pleased to be working with the Management Center at The American University in Cairo, in making these programmes available for the region.
Following a student recruitment drive from January 2011, the following programmes will be offered in Cairo:
Professor Kydd said that, following major government reforms in macro-economic policy, Egypt will now attract greater foreign investment with the higher education sector playing a key role in supporting this development.
He added: “In a move towards a student driven education system, I believe that our programmes have and will add to the diversity of the study programmes being offered in this region and promote internationalisation.
“Our programmes will also go some way towards meeting the recommendations of the recent report carried out by the World Bank and the OCDE (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), which advocated a more outward looking and flexible higher education system for Egypt which must be responsive to the needs of the local labour market. The American University in Cairo is taking steps to do this and I wish them success with this venture.”
Of the benefits, Professor Kydd said: “Not only will our students benefit personally by equipping themselves with essential knowledge through internationally recognised programmes but they will also be contributing to the national economy, which will benefit employers enormously”.
Mr. Amr Hamdy, the Management Center Director said: “ We at the Management Center of the School of Business of the American University in Cairo are delighted to be working with the University of London to offer programmes which provide graduates in Egypt and the region with the latest knowledge in the fields of International Management, Banking and Information Systems. This partnership is one of many, where the Management Center engages to offer a diversified set of programmes to cater for the different business needs of professionals in our markets in Egypt and the Region.”
