Good Web Design Combines Functionality and Creativity

VCAD program preps talented artists for web design careers

Vancouver, BC (Vocus/PRWEB ) October 25, 2009 – In a world where a company’s online presence can make or break them, the task of creating eye-catching, user-friendly websites has never been so important. Now, those looking to enter the lucrative web design industry can get the training they need at an affordable cost.

“In order to meet the demands of business and society, visual communication and design – including web design – must change continuously,” says Bohdan Bilan, VCAD VP of Academics. “The Web Design program offers students an opportunity to engage in a focused, industry-driven curriculum that will lead to employment in a variety of positions in web and Internet development.”

Students in VCAD’s Web Design program learn about design concepts, website layout, colour theory and typography. The program also teaches them to be technically proficient with the key software used by designers in the field: Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash and Action Scripting. More importantly, students learn about human-computer interaction and how to create user-centered designs. They will also focus on learning to develop sites with robust content that include text, interactive media and audio/video techniques.

Because the program helps students develop the practical and technical skills needed for success in the field of web design, Bilan says that it is important that the program is in-step with what’s relevant in the field.

“We maintain close ties with the web design industry to continually assess our curriculum and gain insight to ensure our graduates will meet the needs of the industry,” adds Bilan. “We know that employers want graduates that are knowledgeable about their field and possess fresh, current skills.”

VCAD is currently accepting applications for its Web Design program for the January 2010 session. For more information, visit http://vancouver.vcad.ca.
