The Whiskies of the World today released the exciting line up of brands participating at their first Texas event, which will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012, in the main ballroom of the Hyatt Regency.
The flagship event, Whiskies of the World San Francisco, has grown over the last 13 years to become one of the largest consumer tasting festivals in America, and a much-anticipated staple, not only locally, but nationwide. Every year, the Expo enjoys the attendance of 1,500 participants from as many as 20 states. The avant-garde Whiskies of the World Austin will follow the success of its parent event to gather the world’s most fascinating distilled spirits along with their makers and ambassadors to give its guests an opportunity to sample, learn and experience the art of whisky. A sure-to-become Austin favorite, the Expo will have special features, such as whisky pairing with craft foods, a cigar cut and smoke, and whisky maker meet and greet. Famous men behind the whiskies will be in attendance to pour and personally cheer with the guests: Tom Bulleit, a third-generation distiller and founder of the frontier Bulleit bourbon, Rob Robillard, a creator of the unique American maple-infused whiskey, Jim Rutledge, known as the original inductee to the bourbon “hall of fame”, Stuart Nickerson, managing director of the newly re-opened Glenglassaugh distillery, Robin Coupar, Campari brand ambassador and promoter of all things scotch, and other notable whisky personas.
From the biggest brand names to whiskies that are not even available for sale, including unique whiskies from France, Australia, and India, there will be a spirit to suit everyone’s taste. In addition to incredible spirits from every corner of the world, the Expo will also feature seminars conducted by world renowned Master Distillers and Brand Ambassadors. Teresa Menendez Myers, Classic Malts, Diageo
“Walking through the Regions of Scotland”
Diageo’s only she-Master of Whisky, Teresa will perform a seminar to take consumers through the history, production process, regions, and most importantly, the flavor profiles of the Classic Malts vast selection of single malt Scotch.
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie
“Maturation in Depth”
A three-time Industry Leader of the Year, Lumsden has garnered multiple awards and accolades for his wood management and exotic finishes, and is considered one of the most knowledgeable and innovative distillers in the world. The extraordinary masterclass will include topics such as the Scotch maturation process, wood and cask selection, and aging determination.
Chip Tate, Balcones Distillery
“Whisky Aromas: Where Do They Come from?”
Chip Tate has been a dedicated home brewer for 18 years and has spent the past several years learning the science of distilling, including an apprenticeship in Scotland. An introductory level, hands-on workshop will focus on helping whisky enthusiasts understand the spirit they love.
Dave Scheurich, Tennessee Spirits Company
“Flavors and Judging a Good Whiskey”
Dave is a whiskey industry veteran and retired General Manager of Woodford Reserve where he was involved with developing the brand. Dave will present a brief history on how whiskey making evolved in the U.S., along with an explanation of the different spirits and whiskeys (i.e., Tennessee whiskey, bourbon, Canadian, Scotch, Irish, etc.). Mr. Scheurich will explain the production steps of making whiskey and the eleven factors that influence whiskey flavors.
Brendan Coyle, High West Distillery
“Distillation: Technical or Artistic?”
Brendan, starting off at Redrock Brewing, Utah, went on to Scotland to earn a Masters in Brewing and Distilling Sciences. After returning to Redrock, Brendan teamed up with David Perkins to develop a new brand from the ground up. Brendon will introduce the guests to what whiskey is, what it can be, and talk about the mashing, fermentation, and distillation of whiskey, and how that drastically affects fresh whiskey characteristics.
Jeff Nolan, Oliva Cigars; Brad Jarvis, Old Malt Cask; Garry Wilhite, Prichard’s
“Cigars and Whisky – A Perfect Pairing”
The guests will learn the artistry that goes into making cigars as they will enjoy the first hand pleasures of pairing poles apart in location and taste whiskies, a scotch and a bourbon, with a specially selected Oliva Cigar.
Guests will also enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner specially created to pair with whisky, outdoor cigar smoking, and live background jazz, for the total delectable experience. The event has been receiving great interest from exhibitors, consumers, media and trade, and aims to start a new tradition among the whisky enthusiasts of Texas and beyond.

Whiskies of the World LLC is Based in California and owned by the International Wine & Spirits Competition and Douglas Smith.
The first annual Whiskies of the World Expo was held in San Francisco in 1998. In 2012, by popular demand of the industry and consumers, the Expo has expanded to become a first high-end large scale whisky tasting festival in Texas.
