Chuncheon, South Korea (PRWEB) September 17, 2012
Celebrating its first anniversary this month, Whistling Rock topped the list of 10 courses included on the exclusive biennial awards, to be published in the October issue of Golf Magazine Korea. The Best New Course category is for courses that opened in 2010 and 2011.
“We are extremely honored and proud to receive the No. 1 ranking among all the new golf course in Korea,” said Ki-yoo Kim, President & CEO of Donglim Leisure Development Co., Ltd., owners of Whistling Rock Country Club. “The golf courses on this list are truly exceptional. We appreciate the recognition by Golf Magazine Korea and will strive to maintain Whistling Rock as a world-class golf venue.”
Debuting in September of last year, Whistling Rock showcases 27 holes of world-class golf by renowned international golf architect Ted Robinson, Jr. Acclaimed for its strategic elevation changes in mountain hillsides of Chuncheon, 50 minutes east of Seoul, Whistling Rock is a creative combination of choices and challenges.
Respecting the natural elements of the diverse landforms, Robinson has integrated 15 lakes into his design – all connected by numerous streams and several cascading waterfalls that not only enhance shot values, but define Whistling Rock’s striking aesthetics.
“It has been a group effort to make Whistling Rock something special,” said Robinson, who has worked on previous award-winning golf courses in Korea. “This is a great tribute to those who were determined to make this a spectacular place to play golf.” Joining Robinson on the creative team were Ken Alperstein and Dave Fisher of Pinnacle Design, Palm Desert, Calif.
An upscale, private country club, Whistling Rock has three nine-hole loops, each possessing its own distinctive traits. Named Cocoon, Temple and Cloud for the three signature tea houses that grace the golf course, each nine is a par 36. The project has been developed by Donglim Leisure Development Co., LTD., part of a leading South Korean conglomerate with holdings in textiles, chemical, industry, cable television and financial services (insurance).
The mountainous resort area of Chuncheon sits in a basin flanked by lakes and rivers. The town and its environs, a popular vacation and festival destination, is surrounded by Lake Uiam to the west, Chuncheon Lake to the north and, further east, massive Soyang Lake.
Membership to Whistling Rock Country Club is by invitation only.
