“Having a large user base is impressive. But having a large and highly active user base – which continues to engage with the app, millions of times per day – is the real achievement,” explained Bryant Harris, Founder and CEO of WhosHere.

WhosHere®, the world’s most popular app for location-based mobile social networking, announced today the six billionth free text message sent through its iOS application platform.

This news follows closely on the heels of last week's announcement that the first-of-its-kind app exceeded five million users – an enormous figure that helps explain the surge in texting activity.

“Having a large user base is impressive. But having a large and highly active user base – which continues to engage with the app, millions of times per day – is the real achievement,” explained Bryant Harris, Founder and CEO of WhosHere.

WhosHere works by leveraging location information on iOS devices, then connecting users with similar interests and in similar geographic areas, via free texts, free picture messages, and free VoIP calls -- without ever disclosing a phone number or any other kind of personal information.

WhosHere Version 2.15 is currently available for iOS. Pre-registrations for Android and native iPad versions of the app are currently available. Downloadable versions will be available in early 2012.
