Four days jammed full of fun for the entire family over Memorial Day weekend officially kick off the 2009 summer season at Wintergreen Resort, May 22-25. The 11,000-acre, four-season destination in the Blue Ridge Mountains is ready to welcome early arrivals on Friday and keep guests of all ages energized and entertained through the Monday holiday.
Leading the lineup is the Blues & Brews Festival, with the dynamic Jonell Mosser sure to invigorate the Blue Ridge Terrace stage on Saturday and Sunday (May 23-24), with the power of her country-blues-rock compositions. Also on tap will be the best selections from award-winning micro-breweries and assorted Virginia regional favorites, all featured in a setting conducive for casual tasting and hearty toasting.
The weekend starts with the resort's popular "Friday Night At The Movies" (May 22), which combines a film shown in a cozy outdoor setting, following the lighting of the bonfire at 8:30 p.m. After the show, check out singer-songwriter Jimmy O, who plays his folk-rock originals at The Edge, Wintergreen's mountainside pub, from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.
On Saturday and Sunday, take a relaxing stroll through the Arts & Crafts Fair, where unique items will be displayed all day, and then migrate toward the fabulous sounds of the Blues & Brews Festival, which also includes the "Battle of the Blues-Style Bands."
Saturday's other activities include a Crafts Workshop and Kids Block Party, while Sunday begins with an interdenominational worship service.
Monday, Memorial Day, is reserved for a "Day On the Lake" at Wintergreen's Lake Monocan. The activities include the "Wintergreen Beach Olympics" will offer a slate of casual and competitive events that will appeal to everyone in the family.
