A Flash Website Created with Wix

With minimal technical knowledge, internet users are able to create and customize Flash websites for free, with Wix's no-fuss website builder and cutting-edge software.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 2, 2010

Wix.com has announced success in fundraising $10 million in Series C funding provided by Benchmark Capital, with existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and Mangrove Capital Partners collaborating in the effort. Wix's total funding now amounts to $20 million.

Wix was established in 2006 and has provided its Flash website building software to around 3.5 million users ever since. With minimal technical knowledge, internet users are able to create and customize Flash websites for free, with Wix's no-fuss website builder and cutting-edge software.

The company developed a way for Flash websites to gain attention by search engines, which traditionally do not recognize Flash. Wix produced software that through use of xml files feeds the code from the Flash websites into the search engines themselves. The SEO-friendliness of Wix's Flash templates is what makes the Wix platform truly an innovation.

Wix brings in money through its freemium model, in which users can opt for an upgrade from their free website account. Premium Account users are granted their own domain, free of the wix url, the removal of advertisements, and extra customization and design features. For example, Premium users are able to add a shopping-cart widget to their sites. They also gain access to website popularity monitoring software such as Google Analytics.

Other recent developments include a third-party partnership with Fotolia, a stock image options of where to grab photographs from. Photos may be uploaded manually from the user's hard drive, chosen from Wix's stock collection, or selected from either Flickr or Fotolia's extensive collections. Photos may be arranged in a variety of gallery formats. Other features include video embedding, visual effects, color customization, clipart, song files and animation. Users can create multiple pages, with links connecting them. There are separate Save and Publish options, as well as a Preview button, making the editing process an easy one to jump back into. Wix also has its own team of web design experts available for private, in-depth design assistance at an additional cost.

Wix users are mainly small businesses, web designers and consumers. The company estimates that 400,000 new free user accounts are opened each month.
