NASHVILLE, TENN. (PRWEB) March 01, 2013
Clearwater Compliance, LLC is pleased to announce that Yun-kyung (Peggy) Lee, Supervisory Specialist with the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR), will be presenting at Clearwater’s HIPAA Audit Prep BootCamp™ in San Diego on March 21, 2013. Miss Lee has been an investigator for OCR since 2003, and is also the security rule leader for Region IX. She investigates and recommends resolution of complaints alleging discrimination in the provision of health or social services and of complaints alleging violations of the HIPAA privacy and security rules that address health information privacy rights.
A graduate of Cornell University and Pace Law School, Miss Lee began her career as a New York attorney in both private practice and as a staff attorney at the MFY Legal Services Mental Health Law Project. Upon arriving in California, she was a staff attorney at the Neighborhood Legal Services Health Consumer Center prior to joining OCR.
“We are thrilled to have someone join us from OCR with the depth of experience and knowledge that Miss Lee will bring to our BootCamp attendees. Enforcement and fines are increasing with the Omnibus Final Rule and Miss Lee will highlight the methods used during OCR complaint-driven investigations and what OCR is really looking for in compliance programs,” said Bob Chaput, CEO and founder of Clearwater Compliance. “I can’t think of a more informative and effective way for our BootCamp participants to identify compliance gaps in their own programs and apply practical solutions to close them.”
In addition to Clearwater principals Bob and Mary Chaput, Miss Lee will be joining an astute and veteran faculty participating in the full day event, including Maureen Feinroth, Esq., CIPP/E/IT, a licensed attorney with over fifteen years’ experience in researching, analyzing and consulting on legal information security and privacy regulatory compliance issues, who will be explaining the ramifications of the Omnibus Final Rule on liability risk and Business Associates, and Ellen Dunn-Malhotra, MPH, MPP – Director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs for the Health Plan of San Mateo, who will describe her experiences with an OCR audit.
“This is the fifth HIPAA Audit Prep BootCamp™ that Clearwater has sponsored, and each one has provided our attendees with up-to-date useful information, relevant to their needs. It’s not easy being in compliance these days, and to a person, our participants have welcomed the opportunity to share ideas and solutions with others in their field in this tight economic environment,” Bob concluded.
