What a difference a year makes! Just one year ago, out of an East Village apartment, three entrepreneurs launched ZocDoc, an award-winning personal Web service that helps consumers find and book doctor and dentist appointments online. Today, the 12 person company announced that it has two new investors that know a thing or two about building an Internet business from scratch: Marc Benioff, founder, chairman and CEO of Salesforce.com and Jeff Bezos, founder, chairman and CEO of Amazon.com, who invested via his personal investment company, Bezos Expeditions.

Last month ZocDoc announced its Series A funding round, led by Khosla Ventures, which will help the company scale up its already impressive growth. Since June, the company has doubled the number of specialties, adding ophthalmologists, orthopedists and ENT specialists (ear, nose, and throat). These new specialties strengthen the company's online scheduling service that has helped thousands of patients find and book dental, primary care and dermatology appointments.

ZocDoc offered patients nearly 20,000 available appointments in September, a 2,000% increase since the company launched a year ago. The company has grown its consumer and practitioner base by an average of 50% per month as it continues to add new specialties and extend its geographic reach.

"We're expanding rapidly to keep up with demand for our service," said Oliver Kharraz, MD, ZocDoc cofounder and COO. "We are working hard to reduce the long waitlists of doctors that want to join the ZocDoc network to give patients, in all areas, easier access to care."

In fact, the company has just released the "ZocDoc Appointment Book" application for Facebook, which allows doctors to add their available appointments and patient reviews right into their Facebook profiles. Now for the first time ever, patients can book healthcare appointments with their doctors via Facebook.
