The exercises are readily incorporated into daily life, some taking only seconds. The book contains examples of situations that tend to make days stressful and hard to bear, along with suggestions on how to approach the problem from a different perspective. Hawkins recommends that readers choose one or two exercises that are relevant to their situation, put them into practice, and reflect on the results. Did it bring about a change of view or spark a new idea? Readers can experiment with any of the 92 exercises and tips, adapting them to fit their own lives and reflecting on the results. Hawkins believes that this individualized approach will help readers build self-confidence and discover more enjoyable moments.

The author drew heavily on his own experiences to construct the examples in this book. “I relived good and bad times,” he says. “I wrote about situations that irritated or tended to manipulate me, while trying to imagine how each situation might relate to other people in different walks of life. Eventually, I had a long list of problems that affect most of us, and my next task, the most important one, was to come up with some ideas by way of resolutions.”

The web site was created to complement the book. It is a community-oriented site that provides useful, entertaining articles that discuss certain aspects of the book in more detail. In addition, an extended illustrated preview of ‘A Season of Happiness’ is available in PDF format on the site. All the content on the site is available for visitors to read, copy, and print free of charge.
