It’s important that we practice patience and good manners while traveling.
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 14, 2012
RoadFish.com men’s lifestyle and finance magazine today issued their observations surrounding a recent report from AAA forecasting heightened levels of holiday travelers this Thanksgiving as compared to last year. RoadFish.com is promoting safe, smart and ethical traveling practices since 0.7% more Americans will be taking to the roads and skies this year, a total predicted number of 43.6 million.
Samantha Bomkamp of Seattle PI reports that in AAA’s annual Thanksgiving travel forecast, recently released for November 2012, the predicted number of Americans estimated to travel for Thanksgiving this year is 43.6 million. This number is based on how many individuals will travel 50 miles or more away from home, and is 0.7% higher than the amount of holiday travelers from last Thanksgiving.
RoadFish.com urges readers to travel safely and considerately this season, including practicing patience with each other and exerting the proper travel precautions. RoadFish.com’s Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, “It’s important that we practice patience and good manners while traveling. Attitudes like road rage and a ‘me first’ mentality are not civil and don’t get anybody anyplace faster. Millions of people are going to be experiencing lines, traffic, and wait times, so lets just keep in mind the spirit of the holiday and be gentle with one another. But it is important to protect yourself, too. It might be wise to insure your trip if you are flying, and to take precautions such as getting your oil changed and tires checked before hitting the road. You just never know what might come up.”
In the above-mentioned article, Bomkamp reports that according to AAA, despite the higher numbers of people traveling this season it is anticipated that air travel is on the decline. AAA’s report predicts that 3.14 million Americans will fly somewhere this Thanksgiving, as opposed to 3.2 who flew in 2011. The travel organization cites a dramatic dip in gas prices as a probable reason that many are opting to drive over fly to their holiday destination this year. According to the article, the national average price of gas per gallon has dropped 35 cents in the past month alone, and AAA forecasts even further decreases in price as the holidays inch closer.
It is worth noting that AAA’s forecast, taken from a mix of traveler surveys as well as economic analysis, was compiled before Sandy took its toll on the East Coast and it is not yet known how significant an impact the storm will have on people traveling to or living in the Mid-Atlantic region. This is a fairly considerable factor that may skew the numbers quite a bit.
