Portland, OR (PRWEB) November 11, 2011
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) is gearing up for its annual research conference in Portland, Oregon, which will be held jointly this year with the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM). This year’s conference tackles diabetes, which affects nearly 26 million Americans according to the Centers for Disease Control.
“As incoming president of AAEM, I am excited about the collaboration between our academy and ACAM. We share novel approaches and alternative therapies for many patients who have otherwise routine diseases but don’t do well with the usual regimens for the disease. An example of this is diabetes. The meeting should not be missed by physicians because their armamentarium for treatment of diabetes will be greatly expanded,” said Dr. A.L. Barrier, M.D., AAEM President-Elect.
This conference will spotlight environmental health links to diabetes, as well as natural treatment options. Dr. Ted Schettler will present the link between environmental chemicals, diabetes and obesity. Dr. Marianne Marchese will lecture on polycystic ovarian disease, including environmental links. Dr. Stephen Genuis will present the use of sauna detoxification to eliminate toxic chemicals from the body that are associated with diabetes and other diseases.
“AAEM conferences are unique in that they teach doctors to find and treat the real cause of disease, which is often linked to the environment,” said Dr. Amy Dean, AAEM board member.
Preconference workshops include an Environmental Medicine case symposium, a state of the art allergy treatment course and a course on the Environmental Medicine approach to hormone dysfunction.
