Public Vote Will Determine State Winners; National Winner to Be Recognized in Washington D.C. Before U.S. Department of Education

We hear great things from our teachers and praise from administrators about our alumni's work in the classroom. We thought a Teacher of the Year award would be a ideal way to put the spotlight on these teachers and give them even more recognition

With nearly 2,500 teachers certified through their program to-date, the non-profit American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) has launched its inaugural Teacher of the Year campaign. Principals from throughout the states where the program is accepted have submitted nominations for their teachers, finalists were then selected and now voting is being conducted online to determine state winners. Florida, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Utah are all represented in the state voting round.

State winners will be announced in early August. The National ABCTE Teacher of the Year will then be selected and flown to Washington D.C. to receive the award before a representative from the U.S. Department of Education as well as members of ABCTE's Board of Directors and staff.

"We hear great things from our teachers and praise from administrators about our alumni's work in the classroom. We thought a Teacher of the Year award would be a ideal way to put the spotlight on these teachers and give them even more recognition," said Albert Chen, Vice President of Operations for ABCTE. "The difference a teacher can make in the lives of students is a big part of what our program is all about and we're thrilled to have some amazing teachers up for this award who are doing just that."

Voting began on July 7 and nearly 3,000 votes have already been placed. Voting ends on Thursday, July 29 at 5pm EDT. Anyone can vote at http://www.abcte.org/teacher-of-the-year. A list of Honorable Mention recipients is also available on the website.
