CT Robotics Team Heads to Auburn – with Help from Acme Wire Products

Acme Wire Products Co. Inc. is pleased to sponsor the Fastenators high school robotics team on its trip to the BEST regional competition at Auburn University later this month.

The Fastenators, who attend Montville High School in nearby Oakdale, CT, qualified for the November 18-20 contest by placing second for robot performance at the 2010 Connecticut BEST Robotic Competition last month against teams from Connecticut and Long Island.

The Connecticut students will be among 60 teams from 13 competition “hubs” in seven states to participate in the Alabama competition. Organizers expect more than 4,000 students, parents, teachers and supporters to attend the event.

“We committed to sponsoring the Fastenators, because we believe the team imparts skills that are needed in manufacturing and that are relevant to our workforce,” said Mary Fitzgerald, Acme Wire Products president. “Plus, these kinds of engineering competitions expose students to careers in science, technology, engineering and math that they may have never considered.”

The winners at Auburn will go on to a national competition against winning teams from Frontier Trails BEST at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith and from Texas BEST at the University of North Texas – Denton.
