Actos Bladder Cancer
Actos lawsuits have been mounting in state and federal courts since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) ordered Takeda to add new warnings to the Actos label in June 2011, after a study found that long-term use of the drug increased the risk for bladder cancer.* According to Bloomberg.com, more than 1,200 Actos bladder cancer claims are pending in the Louisiana litigation. Additional Actos lawsuits have been filed in state litigations in California and Illinois. Court documents indicate that the first trial in the federal Actos litigation is scheduled to begin in January.**

Last month, the nation’s first Actos bladder cancer trial ended with a Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarding $6.5 million to a plaintiff who was diagnosed with the disease after taking the drug for four years. However, just days later, the judge overseeing the case granted Takeda Pharmaceuticals’ request to set aside the verdict, according to Bloomberg. (Cooper v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc., CGC-12-518535, California Superior Court)
Long-term Actos users who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
