New York, New York (PRWEB) May 19, 2013
Actos lawsuit claims continue to move forward in a federal litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana. According to a Case Management Order dated May 3rd, the Court has modified the litigation’s Bellwether Nomination process, reducing the Bellwether Nominee Pool to eight cases rather than four. The next Status Conference in the federal Actos litigation is scheduled for Thursday, May 23rd. (In re: Actos Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2299)
“Our firm continues to receive Actos lawsuit inquiries from long-term users of the drug who later went on to develop bladder cancer. We are pleased to see this litigation moving forward,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm''s Actos lawyers are currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of Actos bladder cancer.
Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits
According to court filings, all of the Actos lawsuits pending in the Western District of Louisiana allege Takeda Pharmaceuticals failed to provide adequate warnings to doctors and patients regarding the drug’s association with an increased risk of bladder cancer.* Last month, the nation’s first trial involving Actos bladder cancer allegations ended with a Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarding $6.5 million to a plaintiff who was diagnosed with the disease after taking the drug for four years. However, the judge overseeing the case granted Takeda Pharmaceuticals’ request to set aside the verdict. (Cooper v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc., CGC-12-518535, California Superior Court)
The litigation surrounding Actos bladder cancer allegations has been growing since June 2011, when the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned that long-term use of the drug could increase the chances of developing the disease. According to a May 1st Bloomberg.com report, more than 1,200 Actos bladder cancer claims are pending in the Louisiana litigation. Additional Actos lawsuits have been filed in state litigations in California and Illinois.**
Actos users who developed bladder cancer may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. Learn more about filing an Actos lawsuit by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s website. For additional information, please call 800-511-5092 today.
