Our Firm continues to receive Actos lawsuit inquiries from long-term users of the drug who developed bladder cancer. We look forward to more progress in this litigation in the coming months.
New York, New York (PRWEB) April 28, 2013
The Actos lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP note that the next Status Conference for thousands of Actos lawsuits currently pending in U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana, has been scheduled for May 28th. Court records indicate that Takeda Pharmaceuticals has been named in more than 3,000 Actos lawsuits, most of which have been filed in the Louisiana litigation. All of the claims allege that long-term users of the type 2 diabetes drug face an increased risk of developing bladder cancer, and accuse Takeda Pharmaceuticals and other defendants of concealing their knowledge of that risk and failing to provide adequate warnings to the public and medical community. “Our Firm continues to receive Actos lawsuit inquiries from long-term users of the drug who developed bladder cancer. We look forward to more progress in this litigation in the coming months,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm’s Actos lawyers are currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of this medication.
Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits
Actos has been the subject of growing litigation since June 2011, when the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) ordered Takeda to add new warnings to the Actos label, after a study found that long-term use of the drug increased the risk for bladder cancer.* According to Bloomberg.com, Actos was also pulled from the market in Germany and France that month because of its association with bladder cancer. That same year, the drug accounted for 27 percent of Takeda’s sales.**
Earlier this month, closing statements were delivered in the nation’s first trial involving an Actos lawsuit, with the Plaintiff’s attorney telling a Los Angeles Superior Court jury that Takeda Pharmaceuticals hid the risk to protect billions of dollars in profits. According to Bloomberg, evidence introduced at trial included internal Takeda emails that suggested company officials were worried about the impact an Actos bladder cancer warning would have on sales of the drug. “Actos is the most important product for Takeda and therefore we need to manage this issue very carefully and successfully not to cause any damage for this product globally,” a Takeda executive wrote in 2005. Such a development would be a “worst case scenario,” and he urged colleagues to seek a “positive outcome” from “regulatory authorities.”** Jury deliberations are currently ongoing in that case.
