Having worked in the addiction field and having also been a client in various treatment centers, I have noticed the difficulty individuals have in finding quality addiction treatment. Finding a treatment center that provides quality care in a timely manner is important – addiction is life and death.

Individuals impacted by addiction have had a desperate need for someone to navigate the frustrating addiction treatment system. The wait is over. The solution has been discovered through the creativity of Michael Smith of the Munjoy Hill neighborhood of Portland, Maine. Michael’s personalized web-based business is called The Way Out. Michael, a former street drug addict who found recovery for himself has always dreamed of providing a service that would help others navigate the life and death waters known as addiction treatment.
According to the founder Michael Smith, “Having worked in the addiction field and having also been a client in various treatment centers, I have noticed the difficulty individuals have in finding quality addiction treatment. Finding a treatment center that provides quality care in a timely manner is important – addiction is life and death.”
Growing up in Maine, Michael had a long track record with the legal system and addiction. As a child, Michael quickly figured out the best way to survive was through selling and using drugs. While he started with marijuana and alcohol, he quickly progressed to Xanax, pain pills, and eventually began using IV heroin. Michael’s drug addiction took him down quickly and he spent many years going in and out of jails, detoxes, inpatient treatments, and homeless shelters. After suffering from a grueling 10-year drug and alcohol addiction, Michael found freedom through the 12-steps. After getting into recovery, Michael returned to school to complete his education after being a high school drop-out. Michael went on to a local college to continue his education and studied addiction counseling. He has gone on to be active in the addiction recovery field, both as a counselor at a local residential dual diagnosis treatment provider and as a marketer for a nationally known long-term drug and alcohol treatment center. Michael relocated to Texas in 2008.
This past July of 2010, Michael launched The Way Out’s website, TheWayOutRecovery.com. This serves as a significant resource to anyone looking to find addiction treatment for themselves or a loved one, and the Way Out looks to set the standard in treatment placement services. The company is dedicated to helping people find substance abuse and treatment facilities that will address their needs and help them reclaim control of their lives, and in addition, add no additional cost to what can be an expensive disease to treat.
The placement services are accessible by visiting the website at TheWayOutRecovery.com and filling out a simple form describing the current need for treatment. After the form has been submitted, someone from The Way Out will follow-up with specific resources and answer any further questions.
