By adopting an integration strategy using Rhapsody, hospitals can achieve easy data exchange between systems with heavy licensing costs or the cost of adopting a completely new system.
Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) July 28, 2009
Adena Health System, a leading regional healthcare facility in South Central Ohio, has selected the Orion Health™ Rhapsody® Integration Engine to upgrade and manage message exchanges from their Meditech® hospital information system. Implementing Rhapsody will allow for faster, transparent data-exchange and replace time consuming and complex point-to-point integration.
Meditech's information systems are a popular choice for hospitals because of their proven ability to handle data securely while providing complete assurance that clinical data is not lost. At Adena, prior to Rhapsody, this information was shared through point-to-point connections. Rhapsody is used to eliminate the need for point-to-point connections and therefore saving tremendously on cost and a high return on investment.
Marcus Bost, CIO at Adena Health Systems says Rhapsody has aided in transforming the Information Technology analysts job from being reactive to proactive.
"The engine's ability to work with our other applications and notify our analysts instantly when there is an issue allows us to react before clinicians and other employees have an opportunity to become aware of any problems. With Rhapsody, notifications are disseminated immediately upon the discovery of an issue which allows us to be proactive, and since the switch to Rhapsody, our interfaces have had a 99 percent uptime, helping eliminate undue problems for our staff."
Using Rhapsody, patient data sent through HL7 interfaces from Meditech can be manipulated and formatted in an easy manner, maximizing the storage of the data which allows for better viewing and reporting. Patient demographics, scheduling, and test-results data are just a few of the 20 interfaces at Adena Health that are currently using Rhapsody to exchange data with other applications ranging from cardiology to neonatal care.
Orion Health President North America and EMEA Paul Viskovich says Rhapsody helps to reduce costs by protecting hospital investments in existing information systems, such as Meditech.
"By adopting an integration strategy using Rhapsody, hospitals can achieve easy data exchange between systems with heavy licensing costs or the cost of adopting a completely new system."
By leveraging a single Meditech-created interface between the system and Rhapsody Integration Engine, Rhapsody becomes the central engine from which to integrate data from all systems. The Meditech database remains secure and can act as the central data repository for the system, extending its strong data handling characteristics across the institution.
Rhapsody's embedded high-performance message store provides optimal throughput with full auditing and traceability features, allowing administrators to monitor transaction specifics to enable troubleshooting and identification of data blocks.
