Under this partnership, McAfee has certified the security and privacy of Adgregate's advertising products; and Adgregate, through its direct and partner sales channels, will sell Adgregate products enabled with the McAfee SECURE™ trustmark. The McAfee SECURE service performs daily, comprehensive site scanning that tests the retailer's website for more than 10,000 vulnerabilities. Adgregate's secure advertising products prevent rich media ads and distributed commerce solutions from becoming conduits for malvertising (malware found to be lurking in online ads). The McAfee 2009 Threat Predictions Report listed malicious advertising, or "malvertising," as a chief security risk for consumers. According to the study, a big driver in the increase in malvertising is the widespread availability of rich media ads and applications, which can allow malicious code to be embedded inside. Malicious ads have exploited vulnerabilities in established advertising networks, social networks, and leading publishers, with increasing frequency. Abuse and exploitation of the ads have given rise to stolen data and infected computers. Deloitte's 2009 Technology, Media & Telecommunications Predictions Report listed increasing risk of malvertising as one of the top 10 media trends to watch. According to the Deloitte report, just one malvert alone reached two percent of all U.S. Internet users in 2008. And by exploiting weaknesses in the control mechanisms of advertising networks, malvertising is likely to increase in 2010 as well.
