Joshua DuBois, Special Assistant to the President and Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, will be the first to welcome hundreds of adoption professionals to Columbus during the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Summit. The event begins on Wednesday, May 18, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hilton at Easton.
“It is truly an honor to have Mr. DuBois give the welcome address to our adoption recruiters and Foundation partners about their aggressive and tireless efforts to assure a family for every child,” said Rita Soronen, Foundation president and CEO. “His commitment to partnerships and collaboration and steering of federal dollars to secular and faith-based social service organizations will continue to support the well-being of our nation’s most vulnerable children.”
Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, a signature program of the Foundation, awards grants to public and private adoption agencies to hire professionals who execute child-focused recruitment programs targeted exclusively on moving the longest waiting children from foster care into adoptive families. Recruiters are in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. There are more than 114,000 children in America and 30,000 in Canada waiting to be adopted from foster care.
The Summit will bring together Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters from across the U.S. and Canada to assure the implementation of the most effective child-focused adoption recruitment techniques.
Also slated to speak at the Summit are Soronen, David Karam, president of Wendy’s International, Maris Blechner, executive director of Family Focus Adoption Services, Josh Shipp, national motivational speaker and former foster youth, Debbie Riley, executive director of the Center for Adoption Support and Education, Adam Pertman, executive director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute and others.
The Foundation launched the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program with seven pilot sites in 2004, and has expanded it to 122 recruiters finding families for more than 2,200 children in foster care throughout North America. The program is supported by the fundraising of Wendy's restaurants and its customers. For more information, visit davethomasfoundation.org.
