Even though healthcare industry claims processors and claims-flow watchers reported at least a four-fold increase in rejected claims and huge support call spikes after the May 23 CMS deadline for submitting NPI only, AdvancedMD’s preparation kept claim rejections and support volumes flat to a 12-month average for the company’s clients nationwide.

According to Ramsey, although GE Healthcare (another system in use in their operation) was aware of the upcoming mandate, AdvancedMD educated them on how compliance and readiness concerning National Provider Identifiers for enterprise-class medical billing services would impact their claims flow. Originally concerned that she would have to manually update every insurance master file to comply with the new requirement, AdvancedMD completed the task automatically, saving the office not only time, but money.

“We had started updating our database, but knew that it was going to be an overwhelming task transitioning over 800 physicians,” Ramsey said. “As part of the changeover, AdvancedMD offered a free opt-in service to have all carrier files automatically updated.
