Invest in tutoring early, during middle school. High School is preparation for college. We must set our children up for success and nurture their skills and talents at a young age. It’s our job as parents to guide them in finding a career path.

Rube B Williams Jr., Ph.D., expands his math and science tutoring lab Jet Learning Laboratory to include “Sky High” a Private College Prep High School specializing in Advanced Mathematics and Science Theory Applications. A series of informational meetings and free SAT and PCAT tests beginning March 31st promote Sky’s introductory tuition of $549 per month which including labs, afterschool tutoring, and Saturday enrichment courses.
Dr. Williams goal is to raise student proficiency in core high school college preparatory topics while nurturing skills and confidence in astronautics, informatics and robotics. “Sky High School” is a division of Jet Learning Laboratory, a physics and mathematics learning center that’s been open since 2002 in Houston, Texas. The lab specializes in test preparation courses, tutoring and home school support. Utilizing over 25 years of experience in advanced government technical research, commercial propulsion engineering, and university teaching; Dr. Williams developed the schools curriculum to include processes used at NASA, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Rocketdyne and Texas A&M University's Nuclear Engineering Program.
Broad Education.org states, “Compared to the rest of the world, the state of education in America is disappointing and embarrassing. After World War II, the United States’ had the number 1 high school graduation rate. Today we have dropped to Number 21 among industrialized nations. American Students rank 25th in math and 21st in science compared to students in 30 industrialized countries.”
The Eli and Edyth Broad Foundation’s mission is to dramatically transform urban K-12 education. The Los Angeles based foundation says, “Progress in urban education isn’t just possible-it’s happening.”
And this seems to be the case due to the launch of the year round “micro” high school with a maximum enrollment of 40. Students can graduate from Sky High in 3 years and receive SAT prep and tutoring after school and on the weekends at no additional cost.
The Minority Achievement Gap was the topic of discussion September 26th, 2011 at the Notre Dame Education Reform Forum.
“I was most struck by the discussion of the “minority achievement gap.” The term describes the large gap between African-American and Hispanic students’ standardized testing scores, graduation rates and rates of continuance to higher education as compared of those to white students. These rates are also positively correlated to family income levels” MCLarme a sophomore at Notre Dame writes in his blog.
McLarme reviews some of the solutions discussed; charter schools, vouchers for students to attend private schools, removal of teachers’ unions that preserve unqualified teachers’ careers
In line with this theory, Sky High School has agreed to offer an introductory rate of $549 per month to all who enroll before April 4th.
Jet Learning Laboratory founders believe that tutoring and test prep are essential to closing the minority achievement gap. Justin Daniels from YES Prep came to JLL for physics tutoring and SAT prep and received an A in physics and raised his math score on his SAT by 160 points. He is now being considered by West Point.
Located across from the Reliant Stadium, JLL has been open for 8 years and according to positive customer reviews, is making a difference.
JLL is offering free mock SAT testing on 4/14, 4/28, 5/12 and mock PCAT testing on 3/31 and encourages clients to share testimonials!
