From now until May 30, 2011, children in elementary, middle and junior high schools nationwide can submit their afterschool activities to the IZODed Afterschool Awards for the chance to win up to $20,000 in scholarships. Whether they play football, take ballet or map the stars with their telescope, children can turn their present passion into money for their future education. Submissions may be entered online with a parent’s supervision at http://www.AfterschoolAwards.com.
Designed to include a full range of afterschool activities, submissions may fall into the categories of:
- Science (Example: Earth & Eco Science • Computer Science • Health & Medicine)
- Music & Arts (Example: Vocal • Dance • Instrumental • Drawing & Painting • Photography • Film & Video)
- Sports (Example: Field Sports • Court Sports • Martial Arts • Action Sports • And More!)
- Community Service (Example: Volunteer • Environmental • Educational)
Students may enter one time in each category for the chance to win $5,000 per category. Multi-talented children are encouraged to get creative by using a variety of mediums. Entrants have the option of uploading a video of themselves engaged in the afterschool activity of their choice, taking a picture, recording an audio file or writing an original piece.
Participants and fans nationwide will have the chance to participate in this highly interactive contest by voting online everyday for their favorite project from a pre-selected list of semi-finalists between June 23, 2011 and August 10, 2011 on http://www.AfterschoolAwards.com. On August 19, 2011, the winners will be announced during a live broadcast. Social Media interaction will also be highly encouraged.
The contest is sponsored by Fishman & Tobin and supported by IZOD, JCPenney and NOW That’s What I Call Music. IZOD is a leading provider of approved schoolwear, including school uniforms.
